In our experience, very expensive for the quality, and sales team very misleading about what is explained to you and what they deliver: and poor or no communication after you have give them your deposit. Difficult to reach anyone in the office.Only interested in your money.I possibly would recommend if you deal with the owner, seems like good guy, he just have poor representation out in the field.

Timeline of project: We signed our contract 4/18. They said it would be in June that they would be able to get started on the project. They started the excavation 6/2 and said the concrete guys are about a week out. 6/26 the forms were set and the final grading was done. 7/6 concrete was poured. From 7/12 to 7/25 the carpentry, siding, trim, roof, gutters, doors, and electrical was all completed. Pros: They were easy to work with. Jerry made sure what we wanted, was what happened. At no point did I feel forced into something and nothing felt rushed. Cons: - There are random nails in the plywood between studs. Not a ton but enough to take notice. I can understand glancing of a stud but this is 8" away from the studs. -The 24 days between digging a hole and starting on the concrete was a bit unfortunate but was nothing compared to the final grade up to the overhead door. -It took two months (7/25 when electrical was completed until 9/20 when I paid the final bill) for the packed gravel and spilled concrete leading up to the overhead door to be removed and clean fill to be placed there. From the start, I expressed what I wanted was just grass up to the garage. No concrete, gravel, or asphalt path. Just grass. With that in place (you can see from the picture) that would not be possible due to the grade. I attempted to call the office (ext 128) multiple times over a few weeks to inform them the final inspection was complete but this needed to be addressed and I reached no one. I was able to contact the project manager who said a crew would be out to fix this. There was miscommunication between him and his crew since a few weeks after that call he was under the impression that this was already resolved. Soon after another conversation it was. Overall: I'd go with them again. Construction is good. They cleaned up well. Other companies were similarly priced but did not do as well during the sales pitch.

Todd is a great sales person and presents the company very well, but everyone I dealt with after him has no respect for owners property (my retaining wall is damaged from them), I had to call them to clean up after the garage was built, they finally came out for cleanup , but still left behind a 10 ft wooden pallet so I will have to call them again to pick this up since they didn't during clean up. Hopefully they actually answer. It feels impossible to get ahold of this company. The project manager ignores me, so I decided to return to Todd as a person to contact even though he no longer is in charge of my garage project. I would most definitely never use this company again. They are careless, disrespectful and I'm surprised they are so huge in Wisconsin.

This is the only company that actually repairs existing garages and not just repair overhead doors. I was very happy with their promptness and speed in which they repaired my garage door opening and garage door. Thanks guys! Great work!

We went with JD Griffiths due to other positive reviews, but I wanted to post an honest review with our experience. We hired JD Griffiths to do a complete teardown and new garage build. We had a great feeling after meeting with Todd Schmidt. He has worked with company for a long time and knew the business inside and out. He was upfront wit us about timing and expectations for the various stages of the teardown/rebuild. As the weather got nicer in the spring, everything happened very quickly and efficiently. However, there were a few hiccups along the way. During teardown, we were asked whether wen wanted to keep some dirt from the foundation to fill in the gaps after the new foundation was built, and we agreed. I had also asked about our fence prior to the teardown, and was told they would remove it and take it to the dump with the rest of the refuse. Unfortunately, we were left with an enormous pile of dirt, one that would fill in the gaps 20X over. And the dirt pile was also filled with a ton of the old bricks from the old garage. They also left all of the fence pieces in the yard. I had to take a few trips to the dump to dispose of everything. And after filling in the gaps around the foundation with the leftover dirt, removing as much of the old brick as I could, we still had so much leftover that it's no piled high along side the garage with no real way to dispose of it. After the build was complete, there were a few more gaps in communication. The electrical was so basic, that it only included one outlet for an entire 2.5 car garage, so we had to pay extra for an outlet outside the garage and to add an extra switch to manually control the light. The service door was already dirty and scuffed up, as was the trip that was installed around it, but we were told they only came primed and not painted. The lock on the service door was really cheap and not secure, so we had to hire a locksmith to come sure it up. These are all things we weren't aware of, and it seemed kind of petty of the company to skimp on these details with how much we were spending. The biggest kicker came the next spring, about 11 months later. We noticed some damage to the siding that we didn't cause. We called and emailed probably 5-6 times before finally getting a response. After about a month, someone came out to look at it, and it took another several days for him to tell us that it was not covered under warranty. A week later I spoke with him again, and asked if he could check with the siding manufacturer to see if they would cover it, but he refused and simply said he'd get back to me with the phone number of the siding company, and someone from their repairs department would call me back with a cost to repair it. Another 3 weeks went by without a response, and more voice mails were left to a few different people. At this point, 3 months had gone by and the siding was now outside of the manufacturers warranty anyway. Ultimately, I sourced the siding myself locally, picked it up and am going to make the repairs myself. I was truly disappointed in the customer service and communication. To drop so much money and have zero support to take care of these issues makes a huge difference in my overall opinion of this company. And once they did the job, they pretty much abandoned us.

Ken made the entire process of rehabbing my garage a very pleasant experience. He is professional, patient, knowledgeable and very polite. I highly recommend J.D Griffiths Company for all garage services.

Very happy with the service. We have an old wooden garage door and they have managed to keep it working for us. The spring broke and they came out same day, even during the holidays. Services Rendered: Changed large spring on door that had broken. Lubricated parts.

Mixed Bag Review - Good Build Quality, Poor Communication Construction Process and Quality - 4/5. The garage is very solidly built and high-quality materials were used, very happy with the build itself. A change order and cost increase resulted from the excavation of the old garage being deeper than scoped, otherwise no real complaints outside of some cosmetic items. Client Service and Communication - 2/5. Initial contact and quote all were very quick, were told it would be a few months to schedule and we got on the books with a deposit. Great contact leading up to construction, and even got started a month early, fantastic. Teardown crew and concrete workers provided early reach-outs to notify us of upcoming work. After that, crews would show up to work without any heads up, not a big deal overall but it seemed that nobody was quite sure what exact schedules looked like. Overall, teardown to getting the garage erected went smoothly despite a relative lack of communication. Following the build, several large pallets and leftover masonry and carpentry materials were left in our yard and driveway, and were ultimately only partially picked up. It took several calls and emails to have someone come pick up the remainder of the materials, and they were after about six weeks overall. After that point, we did not receive any follow-up on having the garage door and electrical installed. A worker showed up to install the garage door one day but didn't know there was no electrical, and the carpenters didn't frame something correctly that prevented any work to begin with. I had to call our salesperson to get these items scheduled, who was under the impression that work had already been completed when it had not. Following the call, the work was done eventually and was performed well. Two months later and nearly four months in total, we are still waiting for them to fulfill the remainder of the contract in filling in the areas excavated for the foundation and adding a concrete pad to finish the job. I have been reaching out regularly and get told that they are aware and working on it, and end up receiving little to no follow-up communication until the next time I call them. Definitely feels like since most of our job has been done already that we have become next to zero priority on their schedule to get things finished. There is still a 1-2' deep pit around our garage and we are using leftover cinderblocks from the build as a temporary door pad. Aside from looking terrible, it is also preventing us from properly reinstalling the fence that was taken down for construction. Hopefully this is entirely circumstantial, but at the end of the day I shouldn't be hounding a company to get a contract finished and get paid in full, especially not for two months. Their build quality is great but I am really unhappy with customer service and communications overall. Update - All work was resolved after staying in constant contact with them over a period of a few weeks. Revised my rating due to the attention and courtesy paid by the company reps once prioritized, but still unhappy with being left in limbo for so long, nearly two months after the bulk of the work was completed.

I would never use this company again. This is a lousy company. They attempted to repair my garage door, but the workmanship was horrible. The door only worked five times after I had paid for the service. The repairman was so incompetent that he raised the track on the door too high and the door hit the beam in the top of the garage. When I called for them to come back out after the repair didn't work, they never returned. I never heard from them again, and they did not refund my money. I called another company, Joe Wilde, and in three minutes they had discovered the problem, and my door was fixed efficiently and promptly. JD Griffith is a horrible company that does shotty work. Do not use them. Services Rendered: Replaced springs.

I noticed my garage door was askew as it lifted, turned out a lifting cable had jumped the turn wheel. The J.D Griffith repairman was friendly, professional and efficient. He fixed the problem without needing any new parts. The work was successfully finished in under half an hour and the garage door has worked great ever since. Services Rendered: Garage door repair

My salesman Jerry was very good in explaining my options and taking care of the design and initial sale. Problem came after I signed the contract. Communication has been terrible to non existent. I signed in August and was told I could get it done before the weather turned in November. Not even close. I work construction myself and understand that bad weather slows you down but not like this. Framing can be done in the cold. They don’t call forever. Then call One morning and ask if there concrete crew can come out. Perfect. At least that’s a start. They dug, and poured, and told me 2-3 weeks to start building. It’s been 8 and not one stitch of framing has started. No calls, no timeline, just silence. I paid my deposit and half of balance right after concrete was poured. Just sitting around waiting on them. At this point I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. I’ll follow up if my garage ever gets built and let you know how the rest goes. Services Rendered: Garage build

Went very well. Steve was punctual, courteous, and quick to complete the service, making sure to check and grease all the joints. We now have a better functioning door than before the spring broke. Angie's list coupon was accepted without question. Services Rendered: Garage Door Spring Replacement

We had the springs replaced 1st, and the service we received made it an easy call to have them back to do our new GDO. The guys were honest, they came early on both occasions, which was a blessing, and walked me through everything they did, and why they did it. From the secretary, to the gentleman (I’m bad with names, but think it was Brad) who set the appointment, to the service rockstars, I would highly recommend JD Griffiths to anyone/everyone who asks my opinion on a great crew to work on their home. Services Rendered: New garage door opener installed, and new springs.

Great! Kevin was on time, efficient, and fun to talk to! One comment ... I had purchased the opener separately, but when Kevin arrived he told me I could have purchased a slightly better opener with installation from JD Griffiths for just about the same price and a better warranty. I was tempted, but kept the opener I had purchased due to time issues. (Kevin really DID NOT PRESSURE me at all.) If you're considering a new garage door opener, you might want to check ... I'd highly recommend JD Griffiths! Services Rendered: Install garage door opener

Our experience with this company started out pretty OK. I called and I set up an estimate with Jerry. Jerry called three days before the appointment and ask if we could reschedule to the following week because of some things happening. I agreed. And the following week comes and it's half an hour after the appointment time and no one is here. I call Jerry and he apologized said he had written the appointment in the wrong spot. We rescheduled and he came out later that day. He seemed really nice. He listened to what we wanted and made suggestions. He got us our estimate within a reasonable timeframe. He told us that if we liked the contract and signed it within a certain timeframe, he could have the garage completed by November 2018. Well, after we got the estimate and said we were interested in working with him, he then started to backpedal. Suddenly there were issues on his side and he needed to talk to the city inspector. He gave us the whole story - if our garage would require frost footings their company does not do frost footings. Well that's a complete load of BS. JD Griffith builds attached garages which require frost footings. So, they do frost footings, but they do not want to do our job. Also, he did not offer us any other options for building our garage like other contractors have done. Jerry talked to the city inspector and sent me an email stating JD Griffith does not do frost footings, if we could get someone to do the concrete then he would gladly build our garage for us if we wanted. Yeah, I don't think so. If I can't trust a contractor to be truthful with me, then I am not picking that contractor to work for me. Lots of overpromising and under delivering. Just be honest. If the job is too complicated for you or if you do not have enough time to complete it, let the homeowner know.

JD Griffiths is a Top Notch Company. I have had the pleasure of doing business with JD Griffiths on many occasions. over many years. You will not find a better family owned business. You do not build a stellar reputation spanning 50 years unless you are experts at what you do. This is whats wrong with review sites. allowing 10 yr old complaints. Ridiculous, While other garage builders garages are falling down, leaking or rotting after 10 years a person is bitter about flaking driveway. Also complaint about scheduling? Seriously? your Dr. keeps you waiting hours, your city overcharges for taxes and your complaint in life was scheduling confusion? Building quality structures is a huge undertaking. Without a doubt we all made the best decision when we elected to do business with JD Griffiths. There are hundreds of sloppy, fly by night garage builders. They will slap up a garage in a few days and disappear or out of business in two years.. Would this have made Karina or Diana happy? You need to keep a perspective and know when you cross the line on being fair or unfair with your experiences. JD Griffiths has been around Milwaukee for something like 50years " that's heck of a long time in any industry" I normally do not write reviews but I stumbled across Karina's review and as someone who has had many interaction with JD Griffiths Company I felt compelled to set the record straight. Shame on those who complain 10 years after the fact or those who feel entitled to have no confusion in scheduling or unexpected events take place in life. EVER HAVE A NEW HOUSE BUILT. Having JD Griffiths on the job was a wise decision. know where they are located? same address for the last 50 YEARS. I am just a regular guy who appreciates quality in a world where its so rare.

I had them tear down an old 2-1/2 car garage and put up a new 2 1/2 car garage. They did an awesome job from tearing it down to laying the concrete to building the garage awesome job. Would definitely recommend them to anybody.
