I used this company twice, once right after SS Sandy and then for my parents house. The employees are super knowledgeable and professional. The owner and office staff super nice, they work with you and answer any question you have, call you back when promised. This is the type of service that should exist for everything.

Schedule appointment for today, (9/6) the lady gave me a time frame from 9 to ? It was already 11 or 12pm, called and left message asking what time I can expect them. Garage door technician called back saying the lady never told him about our appointment and he will not be able come. Thanks for wasting our morning. Services Rendered: Request estimate for garage door opener and fix broken spring door.

After owning 3 homes in 18 years, I knew nothing about garage doors except that my own was extremely old and noisy. It never really closed all the way down to the ground and I began having a problem with small animals making there way in. Not to mention the garage was alway freezing and the rooms above it suffered in the winter. Without any research or knowledge I contacted Costco for an estimate. It was after that estimate that I understood what makes a garage door more valuable than another door. Aside from the style its really the R value which is the thickness or sometimes just the density of the door panels. Costco was steering me to the midrange doors with an R Value of 9. My old door was an R 6. The estimate came in higher than I imagined but then again I know nothing about garage doors. I decided to ask around to see if anyone in my area had recently purchased a new garage door. It turned out my own brother purchased not one but two garage doors about 5 years ago. Like me he also started out with Costco but ultimately gave his business to Metropolitan Door. I gave them call and setup an appointment for my estimate. The Owner Gus, showed up and began doing his measuring and explaining the R value and options. His doors were an entirely different brand from what Costco was offering. Only he was steering me toward a door of R18. This is pretty much the higher end door for the style we wanted. His estimate came back significantly LOWER than Costco's, plus the Doors R Value (density rating) was twice as thick. His door opener was also different and offered some really great options such as a built in battery incase of power lose and it had Wifi which turns your mobile phone into a door opener. Even better - it also sends you notifications when the door opens and closes. I gave Gus my business and it was a really great experience. My garage has a very low ceiling with a pipe sticking out of it and this made the install tricky. I found that after the install that the door opener was a little loud making a whirling noise and a hint of a scrape. I called Gus the next morning and later that day his installers came back to address the issue. They also took some time to explain a few other details to my wife so that she would understand how to operate the door if there was a total loss of power. She told me later, Out of all the service people she has ever had to deal with, that the Metropolitan door guys were so professional and really took there time with helping her understand the use and options the door had. Its been one month now and so far no issues at all. I would highly recommend Gus and his company for your garage door needs. He a trust worthy guy who is a man of his word and was a pleasure to deal with. I loved the fact that he is a local small business who has been in our area for over 3 decades. If your in the market for a new garage door then you should consider Metropolitan Door and give Gus a call.

I'm not sure why there have been negative reviews for this company. They were professional--always showing up on time--and did a fantastic job of installing our new, high-quality door. The guy who installed the door was amazing, answering every question we had and working efficiently and quickly. I'd much rather have solid, reliable service than an over-friendly salesperson and a subpar installation.

Wow! after reading the responses from Gus, either the owner or manager of this company, I will definitely NOT be choosing them for my work. Sorry that people had to have a bad experience to save me from doing the same. Gus, remember: we can all see what you're writing. Maybe either stop responding for the world to see, or hire someone with a little more professionalism or tact. Next!

The estimate was quick and informative. Once I decided to use them they were in contact with me providing updates regarding door arrivals and installation date. The installer came first thing in the morning and took a little over 6 hours to complete they didn't even take lunch. I noticed a rip in the rubber seal at the bottom of the door and they were able to replace it right away. Services Rendered: completely stripped out 2 9x7 garage doors with rails and openers. Installed 2 new doors, new rails and openers with sensors.

BAD. Waited 4 days to get a service call. The technician was very friendly- no issues. I was told that the company would not attempt the repair the worn/broken cables an attempt to remedy the situation in case their were other issues. It is an older door & they didn't want to get involved- they would only replace the entire door. Complete waste of my time. Services Rendered: Nothing- refused to initiate repairs

I stopped by their offices after having breakfast across the street to inquire about a repair. In the office was a man and a woman who really weren't very helpful. upon inquiring about the repair the woman began writing my info down and informed me that someone would call me. I had to push to inform them about what my needs where and what their terms would be. At that time the man walked over and asked me a few questions about the repair. Upon answering the questions he began to walk out of the office without ever truly responding when I realized that he was holding the door open for me to leave. Wow, no introduction no explanation of the fees, how payment is to made or anything. Not even a thank you for choosing us. It was pretty bad customer service. Long story short I would have given them 1 star except that the actual repair man was very nice and accommodating. He explained all he needed invited me to watch the repair if I wanted to save money on future repairs. Funny thing is when I went into the establishment to inquire about repair the lock I also wanted to inquire about having an opener but based on the treatment I received I decided it would be worth it to do it myself rather than spend money with a company that doesn't appreciate its customers. Update : The reply from the establishment attempts to discredit me because I don't review often. I find that the frequencies of my reviews to be irrelevant. What is important is that I felted so moved by the experience that I was compelled to write. I reiterate that the serviceman was nothing short of a gentleman and a pleasure to do business with. This was not me feeling leaving the office and I expected to be treated worse by the field tech. This was not the case, making my treatment in the office even more appalling. The purpose of my review was to inform the establishment that I did not appreciate the way I was treated. Perhaps it was an oversight related to being busy or failing to realize that while you do this everyday this was my first time in the office and a little more time could have / should have been taken to explain the process. What really made me mad was that the individual I was dealing with simply walked off / out the door while speaking to me and left me standing in the office mid-sentence.....no one even thanked me for using their services......

great experience! Called in a panic after my wife drove into garage door, they came right out! The men were efficient and very professional. They assessed the damage quickly and gave me clear explanation of what had to be done. my door actually had to be replaced and I was able to actually see what I was ordering because this company actually has a showroom. The door came in quicker that I thought it would and the men who installed did a fantastic job. All around great experience and I would absolutely recommend!

Submitted a web form for a repair job. No call back. Called next day and politely asked for a quote. Out of the blue, the guy is yelling at me and then hangs up. Literally, I just need the torsion springs replaced on my garage door and I'm getting yelled at! After hang-up, I call right back and ask why he hung up on me. No answer, gave him the specs of the job, he gives me a quote at which time I thank him and then hang up myself. I paid over $100 more at a competitor because I didn't want to give this guy a dime of my hard earned money. If you can't be polite to potential customers and hang up on them, you aren't going to get the money for this job or any future ones of mine or any of my friends.

Do not ever use Metropolitan Garage Door. Never. Not under any circumstances. Metropolitan installed our garage door and our garage door opener in 2006. In 2012, the large center coil snapped and the door literally came crashing down. It was terrifying. They were responsive and came out the next day to temporarily fix it, but then it took another week for the full repair because they had to wait on parts. The repair was done for free, because the door was relatively new. I appreciated that, and until yesterday, I would have been happy to recommend them to anyone. On Tuesday evening, I backed out of the garage and pushed the button to close the garage door. It started to come down, and I watched the cable on the left hand side come shooting out. This was followed by the entire left side of the door falling down off the track. The door was solidly jammed, on a diagonal, with the left side out of the track and only the arm from the garage door opener holding it up. Luckily my father was visiting and he disconnected the garage door opener, and managed to manually close the door (partially). It was still at least three feet off the ground on the left side, and it couldn't be locked in any way. Not good. First thing Wednesday morning, I called Metropolitan on my way to work. I explained the situation. He told me that this is quite normal and he'd have to look up my paperwork and call me back. He called me back about 15 minutes later and confirmed that they'd installed the door in 2006, realigned it/oiled it in 2009, and replaced the coil in 2012. He said he had no explanation for the fact that it's fallen twice in less than a year, unless I'm "overusing" the door, or maybe I'm "misusing" it, but he'd send someone out to take a look. I said that I'm usually the garage door normally, but I was getting on the train, so I really couldn't argue with him about that. He told me he'd call me after his guy had determined the problem. Around 10am, my nanny texted me to say that the garage door guy had come and was very nasty to her. He closed the door properly and told her not to touch it because it was dangerous. He said he couldn't fix it and he'd be back "sometime next week". Then he left a receipt that said he'd been her for an hour, when in reality, he was here for less than 15 minutes. I was tied up with work so I gave the information to my husband, who called them and was told they had to order the part, but they'd have it fixed this week. Okay fine. This morning, I received a call on my cell phone. As soon as I picked up the phone, someone SHOUTED at me "what did you do to that door?" I was completely lost, and had to ask twice who the caller was. I still don't have a name, but I know it was Metropolitan. This person then proceeded to berate me, telling me that my "story" doesn't make sense, that I "obviously jammed something into the tracks to break the door" or that I "took a wrench to it". (Note: I am not proud to admit this, but I wouldn't recognize a wrench if it fell on me). I explained that I did nothing but push the button to close the door and the cable snapped. He yelled and ranted and raved at me for 20 minutes - telling me that these things don't happen, that he has 40 years of experience and he know that I did something to the door, that I'm overusing and misusing the door (how does one misuse a garage door, incidentally?), and that I have no idea what I'm talking about. I told him over and over what I did and what I saw to no avail. He said he would send a man over this afternoon to SHOW ME what I must have done to the door. At this point, I legitimately thought the man was crazy, so I told him I no longer cared what he thought and I just wanted it fixed, which my husband was told would occur this week. He screamed "I TOLD YOU I CAN'T GET THE PART UNTIL NEXT TUESDAY!" Then he said he wasn't dealing with me anymore and he hung up on me! I was so upset that I was literally shaking and I almost started crying. I called Door Boy in Berkeley Heights at 11:30 am. By 1pm they were here. By 2:15 pm, the door was repaired for $170. The repairman told me that the problem was that the center coil didn't have enough tension on it to support the weight of the door. The lack of tension caused the cable to loosen, and made the door come down unevenly. When the door dropped unevenly, it cause the cable to jump off the pulley. This was the result of the coil (which Metropolitan installed last summer) not having enough tension; it had nothing to do with the way we use the door, how often I open and close the door, or anything else I do. It was the coil! I will be calling Metropolitan tomorrow to let them know that they can keep their part, their recriminations, and their attitude because I will not be using them again. I will also be telling everyone I meet this story, because no one should be subjected to that kind of abuse over a lousy garage!
