Absolutely garbage. Trying to decide if it's worth it to sue knowing I likely won't get paid. Hired a year ago and he poured the wrong foundation. Then disappeared for months with multiple excuses. Finally he did shotty work and failed all subsequent inspections after forgetting to schedule them and being forced to redo work because he skipped the inspections. Complained that the inspectors were out to get him and still didn't comply with the simplest requests. During that time I got a court ordered writ of garnishment that I was t allowed to pay him due to his lack of payments on previous lawsuits against him. He tried to get me to pay him anyway, didn't pay his subcontractors, lied about that and I had to pay them directly or get a lien against my house. Then I had to pay someone else to finish the job and I'm still left with a design that I didn't want in the first place. Stay away

I was happy with the finished garage, but the electrical permit was never pulled. Now over a year later I am dealing with fines and fees with the city, and having to deal with pulling the electrical permit myself. Brandon has not returned my calls or messages about the issue.

I contracted Bonfire Building in January to build a garage at my property in Salt Lake City. He was supposed to start at the beginning of March. To date zero work has been completed and Brandon is unresponsive. I did some research which led me to find out that when Brandon took my money he was not a licensed contractor as his license had expired in November 2019. I have terminated his contract for cause. He also has several uncompleted projects in Salt Lake dating back to April of 2019. I do not recommend contracting with Brandon or giving him any money.

!!! PSA!!!: DO NOT HIRE THIS GUY!!! !!! PSA TO HOMEOWNERS !!!: THE LAW ALLOWS BILKED SUB-CONTRACTORS TO PUT LIENS ON THE PROPERTY OWNER'S HOME IF THE PRIME CONTRACTOR DOESN'T PAY THEM. Brandon Bateman took $20k from me, and was supposed to be done last November. He left my project half finished and dropped off the grid without paying his subs, so now I have to. He's done this to a slew of people lately, is involved in multiple current lawsuits, and is delinquent on at least one court ordered judgement. He may have been good at this once upon a time, but at this point his behavior is criminal, avoid him at all costs. If you hire any contractor, learn from my mistakes. Make sure you fully understand the financial liability you are empowering them with regarding credit they can take with sub-contractors using your property as collateral. No signature required. It is a genuinely mind-boggling legal construct.

Brandon Bateman is a nice guy. At the time of this writing, he's also UNLICENSED. He built a garage for me and didn't pay his supplier so they're putting a LIEN on my house. I took Brandon for a guy that stood by his word and throughout the process he did. But over the course of the last month (since I was sent the "notice of intent" to file the lien from the supplier) he ignored my texts and told me 3x he'd take care of it. I have been very reasonable and asked that he at minimum, communicate with me and shoot me straight. After all, we had a great rapport. But he's chosen to go radio silent over the last month. In my opinion, hiring Brandon Bateman and Bonfire Building is risky business. His CLAIMS of paying his subs/suppliers weekly/as they go are seemingly unfounded. This supplier isn't the only one I heard from during the process saying they hadn't been paid.

Bonfire Building completed a garage for me in summer 2018. I paid a deposit, a 50% payment, and then the balance upon completion. My interactions with Brandon Bateman last year were what you would expect from a contractor... lots of promises about timelines that ultimately were delayed. That being said, the work was ultimately done the way I wanted it and the prices he quoted me initially were fairly close to what ultimately I had to pay. I paid in full in September 2018 and didn't think twice from there. However, yesterday I received a notice from Geneva Rock Products that they have a lien placed on my home for more than $2000 because Brandon did not pay them for the concrete they poured for my garage. Did you know that a subcontractor or supplier can go after you even if you pay your contractor in full? So now I am on the hook with Geneva Rock for that funding and will have to take Bonfire to small claims if they do not respond. I have attempted to contact them but have not received a response. He actually butt dialed me by mistake and then would not acknowledge me when I called him back, texted him, and E-mailed him. If you use Brandon at Bonfire or any contractor, ask to pay the subs directly or get proof that they have paid subs before paying in full. That is what I have learned from this whole process. Wish me luck, it looks like I will be going to small claims soon!

He was very hard to get a hold of. Would not call me back, FINALLY came to my house to give me a quote that I have yet to see. I called and left a message plus texted him with no answer. Go to someone that will actually help you out, not ignore you!

I love my garage and it's all due to the amazing work of Bonfire Building. I was getting very frustrated by getting bids from other contractors who were flaky and unresponsive. By the time I called Brandon (found him from his great reviews on Angie's List), he came to my house and had me a solid bid in less than 48 hours. He works on such a great system and schedule that I didn't worry once about permits, subs or if I was going to get charged more than his original bid. I kept track of extra items I asked for and how much money they would add on at the end. I had a small discrepancy between my numbers and Brandon's at the end, but he honored what I had documented and I really appreciated it. His subs were all excellent, professional and always cleaned up at the end of the day. My garage took a little longer than expected because I picked a siding color that was out of stock. Brandon was always very responsive and easy to work with. I've received numerous compliments on my garage and I would recommend Bonfire Building to anyone.

If you going to build a garage, the best thing you can do is hire Brandon and Bonfire Building to build it right. As an attorney and real estate broker, I did my research before hiring Brandon. I checked his license, confirmed his insurance, viewed his work, talked with his former clients, and researched the progression of the Salt Lake building permits he had taken out on prior jobs to see just how long it took him to do the work and if it was done right. We then hired him to build our garage in one of Salt Lake's historic districts. Unlike a lot of contractors out there, Brandon is creative, responsive, does what he says, charges the exact amount agreed to, stands behind his work and corrects the smallest issues, pays attention to detail and builds a great garage. Although it is one of the biggest projects we have done, it was far and away the easiest- because we had Brandon build it.

Brandon is one of the most honest guys I have ever met. I had some crazy ideas for my garage and Brandon talked me out of a number of them even though he would have made more money. His knowledge and advice was indispensable throughout the process. His subs are top notch and have been working for him pretty much since he started - that tells you what kind of boss he is and the loyalty pays off in the form of a really excellent building. I was able to get in touch with Brandon day or night via his cell phone and he never hesitated to come over the same day to look at a problem/concern. He also worked his butt off to get permits with the city (he went 3 times before it was accepted) and was ceaseless in his pursuit of the perfect garage for me. The only bid I got where I felt like he really listened to my needs/desires and translated them into a design. Despite having several (more than 10) projects going I felt like his only client. He comes at a slight premium to TuffShed, KongSheds and others, but you will not regret the little bit of extra money for such amazing results. Not to mention, I never trusted the other bids I got. Brandon never charged me more than his bid (even when he was wrong about the price). I cannot recommend this man highly enough, he is a pleasure to work with and produces amazing garages!
