Are aluminum garage doors worth it?

Aluminum garage doors are worth it for two specific situations: contemporary or modern home designs that benefit from the clean lines of frame-and-glass full-view styles, and coastal or humid environments where steel rusts but aluminum does not. The downsides are real. Aluminum dents far more easily than steel and is one of the worst materials for insulation, so most aluminum doors lose far more heat than insulated steel. Pricing is also high, typically 2,500 to 5,000 dollars for a residential door and well over that for full-view glass. If you want a modern look or live near salt air, aluminum is a strong choice. For everyday durability, energy efficiency, and value, insulated steel is the better pick.
