Why is my garage door sensor amber?

An amber light on your garage door sensor is normal and indicates the sender unit is working correctly. On LiftMaster, Chamberlain, and Craftsman openers, the safety system uses two sensors: an amber-LED sender that constantly transmits an invisible infrared beam across the door opening, and a green-LED receiver on the other side that lights up when it sees the beam. Amber is the correct color for the sender, not a warning. If your door will not close even with the amber sensor lit, the issue is on the green receiver side: it may be misaligned, blocked, dirty, or wired loose. If the amber light is off entirely, that indicates a power problem, a wiring fault, or a failed sensor on the sender side.
