I had a significant problem with my garage doors. I called Ken, and he came over to check out the problem. He instructed us on how to handle the situation until he could get back to fix it. I called him the next day and told him the door situation got worse. He stopped by to see it that very night. The next day, he and his guys were at my house, and the doors were fixed. His prices for this service were very fair. He and his crew were the nicest I have ever encountered. I will always recommend this company.

A $55 "vehicle charge" for a service call of over $800 is ridiculous especially when the distance from Darmstadt to the place of service is approximately 2 miles.

You always want something like this fixed asap, especially when one of your cars is trapped inside. Ken, the owner, got back to me right away. He and his installer Ron showed up in a few hours, and raised the 330 pound door up so I could get the car out. The next morning they came back and weighed the door to make sure they made the right strength springs. A few hours later Ron started working and by late afternoon it was finished. They triple checked the door, put up the appropriate safety stickers and cleaned up before leaving. The price was very close to the estimate. This company has clearly worked with these types of old wood doors and hardware before. They came, had all materials on their truck made sure the springs and pulleys were all working and properly tensioned, rollers secure and seated properly and finally changed out some worn parts inside the opener to get it all functioning again. My neighbor was so impressed with their work that he hired them on the spot to replace his garage opener. Turns out they had a new opener/motor in the truck ready to install. Services Rendered: I have three heavy wooden garage doors, installed back in the 40s. The newer openers had ceased working some time ago.

I called Darmstadt and he came the next day....managing to fit me in at 10PM. He owns the company and works himself like a dog (or a true small business owner, same thing). He found the drive belt slipping, lubricated and adjusted everything...and when he was done, everything worked as good as new....and I could get the car out of the garage without having to manually lift the 1 ton garage door. I thought I'd have to spring for a new opener or major repairs....but all it took was a rubber belt and setting things right....because he knew the product. A real, knowledgeable, dedicated pro. I expected it would take a week to get someone out, but it was only a little over a day. TOP NOTCH Services Rendered: My garage door opener was malfunctioning, would start and open a little bit and then shut down. He fixed everything.

Received a phone quote in a timely fashion (called back in response to message left) and scheduled a possible visit after the weekend.However, I received a better phone estimate and went with another company to repair my garage door. All the above was accomplished for the same price as Darmstadt had quoted for only replacement of the cables and springs on one door and before Darmstadt called to schedule an appointment. Check out other companies on Angie's list before you commit. I was very satisfied with the work and the price of the company I went with despite the fact that they were located at the opposite end of the county. Darmstadt may do fine work but my need was for repairs a inexpensively as I could get them done. Services Rendered: Springs were replaced as were cables and safety hitches. The latter two items were replaced on a second garage door. Plus a minor reinforcement of the door with a small metal brace.

I called because my garage door, with an ancient automatic opener, was opening by itself hours after I closed it. Darmstadt's came out to do an evaluation and give an estimate, the next day after I called. Their recommendation was a new mechanism, since the old one was out of compliance with current safety laws in any case. They also found several jerry-rigged aspects of it from a previous homeowner. They scheduled the job for a couple of days later (New Year's Eve day, by the way). They came as scheduled, called first as promised, then replaced the old mechanism with a new one and adjusted the door to close smoothly rather than the rough closing from the older home-made repair. The job took less than two hours and was done well. They were professional and prompt, came to give an estimate when they said they would, then came as scheduled to do the work, for a reasonable price. A very satisfying experience. Services Rendered: Replaced an ancient automatic garage door opener with a new one.
