Yelp1Inconsiderate and Incompetent Nightmare **Warning Do Not Use This Company** The owner, Michael Hochstetler, attempted to replaced the springs on our garage door after we paid him with cash. During installation he incorrectly aligned the spring to the wall bracket and then overtightened the two halves of the center bearing housing causing them to crack. He then reconnected the door to the motor carriage in the wrong position causing the motor to appear to be failed. After trying to sell us a new lift motor he left us with a non-working garage door and said he would be back in two days. I personally fixed the motor, which he had jammed against the travel limit stops. We tried to get him to come back to repair the cracked component for over a month. He repeatedly had excuses including work, travel, and illness and ultimately failed to respond. We ended up having to have someone else come fix it. It took them a 10$ part and 1 hour labor for the fix. Do not do business with Garage Door Mechanix. He does not have a basic understanding of garage door mechanics and is unbelievably inconsiderate and disrespectful to his customers. He will give you a low price and make a good deal if you pay cash, but you will regret using him.

Yelp1AVOID! Was a no-show, no call to reschedule, made the appointment 2 days in advance at his option. Don't know what his problem was, but he should have just

Yelp2I was not very happy with the service I got. He took the old door down and put the new door up in no time (that is the only reason I'm giving him two stars). Before I paid him I decided to check and make sure everything was working...it wasn't. He told me there was nothing he could do to fix it that it was an issue with clearance of the door to the jam. I mean seriously, you install garage doors for a living, if there is a fit issue, take a saw and cut the wood down. He never checked operation of the door after he was done and when I asked him to fix it he said it wasn't his problem. It is your problem, I pay you to install a door. I expect it to work, not have to waste my own time and money fixing your work. If I wanted to do it myself I would have done it myself and not paid you. I'm not very impressed. He seemed rushed and was late for another appointment, not interested at all if I was happy and satisfied with his work. PS: I had a contractor fix it in about 10 minutes so it wasn't any issue of time. He could have fixed it easily. He just wasn't interested in doing a good quality job. There are better choices, don't use this guy. Update to Response: I paid you to install a working garage door. What I got was a door that got stuck on the frame each and every time I tried to close it. To make matters worse, your wiring job on the sensor is HORRIBLE and clearly done out of frustration and anger. You never adjusted the limits on the garage motor either. What if I was an old lady that didn't know anything about garage door motors. How could you even think to leave a job in that condition! I will have to spend an hour tomorrow redoing the wiring on that one limit and adjusting the travel limits on the motor. You were clearly more interested in meeting your fiance for lunch than doing the job right.

Yelp5We were having issues with our garage again, and called a different company. They came out and gave us an extremely high quote, so we decided to order the part and replace ourselves. Well the part came and we installed, but we still had the same issue. My husband originally wanted the company to come back out and not charge us again to diagnose the issue. They agreed but could not come out until 5 days later. In the meantime while my husband was venting, I was e-mailing Michael who was quickly responding (on a Saturday). I told my husband if the other company didn't know what they were doing and were price gauging us, why should we trust them this time again? He agreed and was willing for me to find someone else. Michael had already agreed to come out the next day, but my husband wanted to confirm he wouldn't charge extra for a Sunday. He did not, so we booked! Michael came out on Sunday as promised and met with my husband in the garage to discuss our issue. He fixed our issue at a very reasonable price. My husband was with Michael the entire time of the repair and enjoyed the conversation, which just goes to show how personable Michael is, on top of being knowledgeable with garages. I personally did not meet Michael, but just based off of his quick responses to my e-mails and my husband trusting his ability, I would highly recommend you use him for all of your garage door repairs. We will use him again in the future. Hopefully not for awhile! PS - I would really rate him 1 star if this were a review for who he cheers for in football ;)

Yelp5We called several garage door repair companies around the Charlotte area for quotes, and Michael was definitely the most responsive and the best price. He was prompt, very communicative of what was going on, and helpful at quoting us the "bandage" repair option as well as the "fix the issue" option, but completely transparent on all prices and why each item was important. We called him later that day to let him know we would like to process with the "fix the issue" option, and he was able to schedule us for the very next morning, which was Saturday. He was prompt, and was incredibly quick and efficient at getting everything done. He's been doing this for a while, and you only have to talk to him for a few minutes to see that he really understands the in-and-outs of garage door mechanics and the physics of how it all works. Add to all this the fact that he ensures his work for 60 days, no questions asked, and as he only sells/installs LiftMaster systems, he stands behind the brand so strongly that he personally guarantees a lifetime warranty on the unit. Bottom line, we would happily recommend him to anyone who needs work done on your garage door/unit.

Yelp5Great work. I reached out to get a quote on Facebook and he replied within minutes. Came out that nite and gave me a price. We liked the price and he had the door in the very next day. Fast and professional. Great work GDM!!

Yelp5Very professional fellow. I really liked how he quickly responded to each kind of message I sent (facebook, text, email and phone). Very good pricing and was knowledgable his doors. I have an odd schedule and he was able to get my door done even with my odd time restraints. He even took my ragged out door with him and left the area clean. I've been recommending him to my friends.

Yelp2April 2017 As an update to my review below; I must now update my review with my recent disappointment. Recently after trying to add some new remotes my garage door began opening it self up multiple times a day and night. Despite wiping the remotes and trying what I could I was unsuccessful at fixing the door. So my wife contacted Garage door Mechanix. Michael came out the next day and took a look, he felt that something was off with the programing so he reset everything and redid the remotes. He let her know that this should fix the problem and likely somebody was doing the same programming when I was doing ours. He said if this fix did not work, he would need to install the WI Fi unit and a new motor to make it work proper. He said this would cost in the $300s and that the remotes (3) could be replaced for around $100 but he would make us a deal. Now keep in mind the unit and remotes are less than a year old and is under warranty due to the replacement details below. The first thing I noticed when I came home from work was my remote still worked so the system was not cleared properly. Second the door was still opening it self when it felt like it. We contacted lift master directly at which point they told us Garage Door Mechanix is not an authorized dealer and this should be a simple fix and if it can't be fixed they would cover it under warranty no need to spend money on a new motor, wi fi or remotes. With the directions Life Master provided I fixed the issue and saved over $300 that would have otherwise been wasted on unnecessary repairs. May 2016 For those that like short reviews, I highly recommend Michael and Garage door Mechanix, if you need garage door work done just hire him. For those that like a few more details here goes. I got a call from my fiance at 730 am on a friday morning, while I'm at work 40 min away telling me she can't get the garage door shut, it's stuck about a foot and a half open and she has to leave. This left me with a feeling of panic about somebody being able to get into the house. I left work and began searching for what was wrong. It was clearly not fixable by me. I made three phone calls, Michael and the Garage door Mechanix was the third but I wish they were the first. I was told by one provider they didn't have the part (they didn't even look at it yet) and could not come till Wednesday and would charge $120 just to come out. Another told me they could come but it would be Sunday. Michael was able to come that night tell me what was wrong and got it fixed before the end of the day. Several things made him stand apart. The first is he was very professional, the second is he kept me up to speed with his schedule. The third thing that made him stand apart is he understood my feeling of wanting to get this done and the poor timing of it breaking since my wedding is one week away. He worked with me to get this done and did it at an outstanding cost. I whole heartedly recommend this company and Michael. I wish more companies worked like this one.

Yelp4Michael is very professional and he follows through immediately. He was at the beach when I called and not only did he take the call, he responded via text afterwards. He also was very professional and immediately explained that he was away for the weekend but would get to me as soon as he got back. He also scheduled a time and was very respectful of the time factors. He also promised a military discount and was true to his word. Upon coming back to town he texted me and asked to come by for an assessment. I was going to call him for the same thing!! We scheduled a time for him to come by. During the time that he arrived my grandchildren were visiting. He took it in stride and even laughed at the grandson's jokes. It was hilarious. The quote was very fair and the professionalism displayed was bar none. I cannot wait to see the finished product.

Yelp5Fair and honest. Very accommodating to my schedule. By far best price on a simple spring replacement job. I compared his price to some other companies my neighbors had used for same job. I'll certainly be calling this guy back for all garage related needs! Support locally owned business!

Angi1They did a great job. However, we have been battling with them every since. They did not provide everything that we paid for. In other words, we are still waiting for the back up batteries for our garage. When they took the lights out, they were to replace the lights. They replaced the way our doors open, changed how they opened. They were suppose to replace the lights. I have the text, and they promised they were going to do it. We have been back and forth with these people. They are not returning phone calls, it has been miserable. We lost power, and discovered the back up lights weren't there, and we noticed the lights were taken off, and not in place. We were back and forth with them, and they were ordering the parts, and making excuse after excuse. To this day, we have not gotten the completed work, and they have our money. When they first came out, they were friendly. Once they got their money, oh we support our stuff, if you have any problems,don't hesitate to call. Its nothing that they said they do. We kind of got ripped off. The quality of the garage door openers are fine. As far as I am concerned, they aren't finished. They were here on the first appointment. I have not contacted them in a while. This is not over, they still owe us stuff. I am not sure how to go about getting it completed. I am not sure if I should contact list master to complained about this guy, or what. Services Rendered: Garage door opener, lights,

Angi5Went well; took longer to schedule than originally noted and door delivery was the reason; but maybe only 1-2 weeks late; left a minor 5" scratch on the outsid door and didn't have touch up paint; said they'd come back at some time to touch up; never came back; otherwise all went as planned; Services Rendered: Ended up replacing the entire door and motor; pricing was competitive with what my brother had paid another firm;

Angi1They were unresponsive. After numerous attempts to reach them, I received an email to schedule. However, after taking off work to meet them, they didn't show up. I tried reaching out to them again, no response. About a week later a received an email and tried to get it rescheduled, but now no response. Last communication was several weeks ago. If this was charged to my card, I want an immediate refund!!! I can be reached at 704-942-7807. I would think you guys would do a better job of checking out these vendors before referring them. I have wasted many hours on this - not worth my time!!! Services Rendered: garage door serviced and new keypad was to be installed

Angi2I really hate to write this review because I think Michael means well. But, clearly something is wrong in his business. He came out and my partner negotiated for a new garage door. He was paid half, did the work incompletely so was due to come back to finish up before getting the other half. I liked him from the get g0 - he was calm and seemed very trustworthy. He came back after a few calls, and I foolishly paid him without looking at his work. After he left, my partner pointed out things had been done badly. When I contacted him he understood and seemed definite about coming out to make this right. However, due to "personal crises" he failed to show but kept promising us that he would come. Now he does not return emails so I guess he is gone. I think he means well but is in some kind of situation he does not know how to manage. Services Rendered: He came to "tune up " our garage door. He and my partner negotiated a full door replacement at a cost of over $1000.
