Overall: Unsafe Garage Door Install & Poor Customer Service Subject: Safety Hazard Due to Improper Installation – LiftMaster Reverse Setting Failure A few years ago, this company installed a garage door with a LiftMaster opener at my property. At the time, everything seemed to function properly. However, just recently, the door came down on a small chair and completely destroyed it—without reversing or stopping as the LiftMaster safety settings are designed to do. I called your company to ask about a repair, and not only was I quoted more than the original installation cost, but the person I spoke with was very unprofessional on the phone—short, dismissive, and unwilling to acknowledge my concerns. For a second opinion, I brought in another technician who immediately spotted a serious issue: the springs and tension system were misaligned from the original installation, directly impacting the LiftMaster’s reverse safety function. Because of this setup, the door required far too much force to close—essentially disabling the auto-reverse feature, a critical safety measure. I was told the door was operating under dangerously high tension and that I was incredibly lucky it didn’t come down on a child or pet. This isn’t normal wear and tear—it’s a serious safety hazard caused by improper installation and failure to properly calibrate the opener. I don’t expect the company to take total responsibility and replace the door but a little understanding and willingness to offer a solution and some understanding would of went a long way. Instead I got an inflated repair quote and told I shouldn’t put a chair under it.

Had an emergency and after several dead end Google searches landed on Detroit Door. I am so glad I found this company! Contacted them in the afternoon and they sent a crew out the same day to get the door usable. Then came back first thing in the morning and professionally installed a brand new door and frame in a couple of hours. And all for a reasonable price! I would definitely recommend them and will use them again in the future.

Amazing company, Jesse Valmont is a very skilled professional. After I told him that we use this door as our primary entry, and that our springs were last replaced only a few years ago... He recommended the extra duty cycle springs for nearly triple the life, for only $50 additional. Quoted price estimate over the phone, did some extra stuff like checked cables, which were damaged as well. Additional cost was not very much. I had my own bottom weather strip which I planned to install, but he put it on for me at no extra charge. He balanced the door, also re-programmed the garage door opener, as he told me that when the spring fails, this can affect the door opener operation. Again, no extra charge! I couldn't be happier with his professional service, and attention to my situation. I sent him a photo of the door with the broken spring, from the inside, and he said that was great as he was sure to have the correct spring on his truck (see attached photo). I highly recommend him. Services Rendered: Replaced two springs on my 8' insulated 2-car garage door

Jesse was very pleasant and respectful to my 95 year-old mom and took care of the problem in short time. The realtor who happened to be there asked me to get his business card (which I did) because she was very impressed by his professionalism.
