We had a 22 year old Liftmaster garage door opener, technically an 'operator' (we'll get to that) that would randomly open and/or close on it's own. It started this behavior 3-4 years ago. Very infrequent, nothing I did could reproduce it, I thought surely someone had a controller tied to it so I reset the whole thing. I contacted Chamberlain and they said this behavior could be a faulty control board. They didn't sell the control board anymore. So, of course, I took to the internet and you can find them. But, I thought about it - if I sold my own board whoever bought it would have their door open on it's own a year later and think that's just the luck of it -- so off to find a new opener I went. I called around... and around. One thing I figured out quickly was that the opener, as you or I colloquially refer to it, is the 'operator' and the opener, as those in that industry refer to it, is the remote. And every place I called, save for Chandler at Elite, would make sure to point this out even if I referred to it as an operator. That may seem benign but it was appreciated to be able to have a simple conversation about a garage door opener without having someone try to school me on internal lingo. Moving on, rather than try to sell me a new opener right off the bat -- Chandler wanted to check some things to see if it could be repaired and save some money. I really appreciated that. And when he came to install the new opener, he did check a few things to see if he could find something causing the behavior. Whether he found them or not, I was going to put in a new opener -- but I appreciated both the ethical quality of the act, as well as, the pure determinative curiosity. Oh, I suppose it's worth mentioning he was ~$200 less than the other companies I talked to. I'm actually not sure what the difference in the openers would have been - other companies I spoke to really pushed upselling things. I just wanted a simple garage door opener that would replace what I had but I did also want to be able to open it with my phone. Chandler had that, didn't try to upsell me on something crazy. When he showed up he was what you would expect from a small business owner; a professional, well mannered, intelligent individual. He had the old opener down and new opener up in almost no-time. He had noted how much quieter it would be, and wow -- it certainly is. The old opener was chain drive, as is the new, but the difference is night and day. I didn't think a chain drive could be that quiet. So, 5* in all categories for Elite Garage Door Services, LLC, highly recommended. I will, henceforth, refer all family and friends to Elite.
