Google5The owner/manager of this dive bar is an absolute gem! He is kind, compassionate, and just an all-around nice person. Example: we were there for a show with four bands: two had already played and the third was setting up when a young woman came up to the bar. She was wearing ear protectors (like industrial workers wear to protect their hearing) and seemed lost and disoriented. Although he could have turned her away or been rude or any number of things, he sat her down at the bar and tried communicating with her using writing, because she wasn’t speaking. He turned all the bar music off and stopped the show, then he called authorities who came with two cops and an ambulance to take care of her. He was just so good about the whole thing! And no one minded the interruption because we were all concerned that she could have been in real trouble! But it turned out she had walked from a resident school nearby and was indeed lost. They took her home and then came back to let the owner know, who kindly told all of us. We were so grateful to him for being a genuinely good person. I also noticed the way he talked to his employees was super respectful and accommodating. All around this is a good man and a nice, clean little dive bar that’s great to play at and see a show!

Google5I'm writing this review as a band member that just performed there. The Nail is such a great venue for bands and musicians. The stage was big enough for a 5 piece, the sound was good, and the staff there was very helpful. They are very responsive, and clear on what they expect from the talent. I hung out after our set to have a beer and listen to the next acts. Prices are fair, and the food looked good. I didn't eat anything, but it looked good. Looking forward to coming back and playing again.

Google1First time going and unfortunately our last. Drinks were very watered down. The bartenders attitude was poor. They complained to the owner who instead of apologizing he yelled at us. He got very defensive, then told us to leave, and that he would give us our money back for the cover charges but refused to when we left. I have never had such a bad experience like we did here. It's a shame because we went to hear a band play and never got to.

Google5A staple of the Philly local music scene. The Nail has been there forever and I'm always thrilled to go back - as a performer or as an audience member! It's a proud dive bar - if you don't want that atmosphere, go somewhere else. If you want to go somewhere where local music feels very alive and intimate, with a very kind family running and working the venue, come to the Nail. I've been playing here for 15 years and consistently have had incredible experiences.
