We had a door installed by Hunts about 12 months ago after our aging existing motor stopped working. We needed it replaced pretty quickly and Hunts were able to fit us in within a couple of days and at a reasonable price. We decided to get the garage door replaced at the same time and got a Liftmaster installed. The installer was great and stayed pretty late to finish the job. Unfortunately, that is where the good news ends. We were told that the door would get gradually quieter through use and would eventually open very smoothly. This never happened and indeed it started getting louder and making grinding noises. So about 8 months after installation I reached out to ask them to take a look at it. This is where I encountered the first problem. The woman I spoke to in the office insisted that they had not installed the door and I must have the wrong company as she could find no record of any work at my address. I insisted it was them so she said she'd look in to it and get back to me. I waited a few days and nothing. So I called back and was told she'd looked in to it and it definitely wasn't them who installed it! So not only hadn't I gotten callback, but they were still insisting they didn't do the work. So I forwarded them the email invoice I got from them. Again no callback so I called them and eventually got a callback from someone who said that the person in the office had been looking in the wrong system and they could send someone out. Not a great experience but that whole process took 2 weeks and I had to keep calling them - they never called me. However, now I was told that as I hadn't purchased the warranty, there would be a callout cost and then a cost to fix. I wasn't particularly impressed with that, I feel like a company that stands behind it's product and work would at least guarantee installation for 12 months. Anyway, I wanted it fixed so I agreed. Someone came out, took a very brief look and told me they wanted $750 to fix it up. That seemed very steep to me so I said I wanted to call the salesman who initially came out. The installer was getting antsy insisting that he needed to either start work or leave. I couldn't get through to the salesman or the office. The installer kept dropping the price eventually saying he'd now do it for $450, but at this point I wanted to talk to someone at Hunts I couldn't get through to anyone and the installer just said he had to leave and drove off. He tried to extract a $20 callout fee from me, but I refused to pay as at this point as it all just seemed very shady. Turns out their installers are sub-contractors not employees so the installer essentially wasn't getting paid unless he did some work. I have tried calling the salesman since to try and see if the original installer would be willing to come back - he was a nice guy and we tipped well given he stayed late to complete the job. But I have apparently been ghosted by them now and no one will take my calls. So really the whole experience after the initial installation has been bad and I would strongly suggest going with another company. I am going to have to find another company to come out and fix up the mess Hunts have left me with.
