BBB1We have a garage door that would not open and called Utica Garage Door Company to come take a look at it. They came out and said it was a blown capacitor. They offered two options, a new unit at $650+ or a new capacitor for $75, plus labor. I decided to replace the capacitor. It took him 10 minutes to put the capacitor in, and charged me $225 for the two trips to my house, one to look at the garage door and determine it was a blown capacitor, and the other to put it in. I paid $225 for 20 minutes of labor. This was on 11-11-23. He only tested the door via the wall opener and not my remote. My remote has never worked since that day, and the garage door only works when it’s warm outside… and now since it’s gotten colder, we’ve been parking outside. When I called to let them know it’s not working, the owner had the audacity to say, “I don’t know why it’s not working in the cold, it could be a blown board, you’re the one who didn’t want a new garage door opener, what do you want me to do about it?” I told him I wanted it fixed and there was dead silence. I explained that we’ve been extremely busy over the holidays and this was the first time I’ve had a second to call. He said that since it’s been two months he didn’t think they he owed me anything. I offered him to ask my neighbors, they can attest to my cars being outside and the door not working… buyer beware here, based on what I experienced, they are charging exorbitant per hour fees, and if you don’t buy a new unit, they don’t care about making sure their work stands up.
